Vietnam unveils national costume for Miss International 2022

“Poinsettia Flower” designed by Le Long Vu and Than Nguyen An Kha draws inspiration from the legend of the Poinsettia Flower and Nguyen Thi Due, who was the first and only doctoral laureate female mandarin in Vietnamese feudal history.

Most notably, the highlight of the design is the headdress and the body of the dress, both of which have been decorated on architectural features from the statues of the Ly and Nguyen dynasties.

Phuong Anh is 22-years-old and stands at 1.77 metres tall with measurements of 87-61-93. The beauty, hailing  from Ho Chi Minh City, first rose to prominence by winning the first runner-up title at Miss Vietnam 2020, meeting the criteria to compete at the global pageant.

The design is named “Poinsettia Flower”

First launched in 1960, Miss International makes up one of the Big Four international beauty competitions, alongside Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss Earth. This year’s contest was originally scheduled to take place in Japan in 2021, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the previous contests, Vietnamese representatives claimed major prizes, with Pham Hong Thuy Van winning the third runner-up title in 2015, and Tuong San finishing among the Top 8 in 2019.

Vietnamese Dance Team to Participate in Summer Festival in Japan

The Yosakoi Soran festival, one of Japan’s most renowned summer festivals, has been around for more than three decades. Since 1992, the Annual Naruko Festival has been held in Hokkaido at the beginning of June. People celebrate traditional music and dances performed with Naruko, an ancient Japanese percussion instrument. The festival is also marked by the singing of the traditional “Soran Bushi” song, which was once sung by local fishermen as they went herring fishing. At Sapporo Odori Park in Sapporo, Japan, dance teams competed for four days, from June 7-11. This year, for the first time, the festival utilized Virtual Reality (VR) technology to present 3D performances. The festival’ slogan is “The streets are our stage!”, which was decided after witnessing the magic and passion of the historical Yosakoi Festival in Kochi – the birth place of Yosakoi. Residents are eagerly heading to the beach to gather these exquisite sea clams with their unique purplish shells for commercial purposes. Strong and mighty waves have deposited a variety of clams, both deceased and living, onto the shoreline. One inhabitant of Cam Nhuong Commune reported that residents frequently discover anadara subcrenata, a species characterized by its thick, oval shell in a white or cream hue, being swept ashore by powerful waves on an annual basis.
